Offline abilities for Android app?

Hi guys,

First of all, thanks for providing your service - duolingo is fantastic!

Secondly... do you actually realize that the Duolingo App is the classic app that people would use far away from home, in foreign countries, in buses or trains, or while waiting on borders, and so on? Unfortunately, these are all places where people often have no internet access. Initially I thought that the Duolingo app would save at least the upcoming lectures on the phone (basically anything that is not greyed out) so that people could use it offline, but apparently this is not the case. I've been on a bus today trying to learn some Spanish, but the lessons were extremely slow, audio often didn't come at all, and frequently I encountered messages that I can't continue because the Duolingo server was unreachable. Very frustrating to say the least.

Maybe you can find a way so the Duolingo app is a bit more offline-friendly, with at least the upcoming lessons being available offline so people can learn on the road, which is in fact what such an app would be particularly useful for?

Thanks for listening!

I don't know about Android, but the iPhone version works in airplane mode, giving access to the next several lessons.

Bad news for you: Duo is totally iOS focused and Android is the ugly stepchild. The egalitarian idea of bringing language learning to the masses is BS: the best program (with more options to learn like the chatbot and offline flash cards), is the one on the phone OS that few if any people in the developing world actually have access to because it's too expensive.
