Converse underwater - IMPOSSIBLE, or is it ?

You can talk with speech underwater too... it just sounds like gibberish to everyone else.
Very interesting indeed. I would love to see Duolingo branch out into sign language. The more ways we all have of communicating with each other, the more connected we all become!
There is a lot of wisdom in what you say.
It is a key to our survival, as individuals and as a species, and as a diverse living planet.
It is the key to what sort of future we bring into reality.
What oportunities may be available to those that come after us. Whether they will have more diverse choices or less as well.
When we communicate to others, it not only allows us to affect our world of today, and touch tomorrow,
It also lets us learn more about ourselves.
This is also a journey worthy of spending a little time with.
Yet for us as a complex community that relays on us living to be dependent on complex living communities around us. It is very important.
I'm sure Duolingo would have already made an ASL course if it were able to support it. Duo's system is based on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, none of which ASL has.
Duolingo wasn't able to support Japanese until it innovated. So, just because Duolingo's current set up isn't equipped for ASL or sign languages in general, doesn't mean it would be impossible forever if it was a priority.
I get what you mean, but working in ASL is a bigger step than Japanese.
It would definitely work for Tinycards, though, in the way it does on Memrise.
I think my previous comment wasn't clear. References to building an ASL course aren't references to Duolingo's current capacity.
Excellent point. If we were to not innovate and change things to suit our needs because the current system doesn't accommodate for the new requirement, then we would still be driving around with a horse and cart today.
When two of us get to together, we become more than the sums of our parts.
You bring something that is wonderful.
And I hope , for example I bring something.
Yet what we create between us is ... it is a something that is created because of our communications between us. It is more than summing up us as individuals. Then when we do this as a community - then we get opportunities of gearing ;P
Though sometimes gearing gives up higher gears, and sometimes ... well it can ... well slow us down. Yet that is another aspect of the story.
Together - when we communicate - I see we create more - beautifully and diversely different. .And all because of the communication between us.
In many ways also - we are able to communicate the way we do - because we stand on the shoulders of giants. Our communications with the past - give us the higher gearing ...
Oh Anie ! That is a BRILLIANT suggestion. I have nephews who are both deaf. So I will also ask some questions in that direction.
And I will add that to my wishlist to help create access to these resources.
- vicdeaf is the community here in Victoria.
Auslan is the official link to the organization about this sign language that is used in Australia.
There is lots of interesting information there.
