The ads are getting incredibly obnoxious

First you changed it from a big green continue button to a less obvious no thanks link. Today I discovered you now pause it a few seconds before allowing me to continue. This is incredibly obnoxious and the sort of behavior that quickly drives me away and likely others too.

I've never seen an add before on here? Do you mean on the app or?

It's shown on the app every time you finish a lesson.

I've never seen an ad here before, and if there were ads I'd be just fine with it (unless it was butting into the actual lessons). Duolingo has to make money somehow, remember that we get to use this great website FOR FREE!!!

Duolingo is, IMHO, over-monetised. First, it's an ad. Then it will force you to watch 90 second video ads. Lucky I still have iOS Duolingo 5.0.3, which doesn't have ads. I even keep a copy of the ipa file so I can downgrade.

90 second video ads? I've only seen ads with just thumbnails.

I went into the Localizable.strings file of Duolingo ipa, changed it to a .plist file and what do I see?

"Play a promoted clip to earn health" "One Month Ad-Free"

They will presumably appear in later versions of Duolingo

BTW, There are no mandatory video ads now on DL. I'm just hypothesising if DL becomes more desperate for money.

That sounds annoying. So far the ads haven't really bothered me, because I know it's for a good cause (though I really wish Duolingo wouldn't use the most hideous scam ads on the planet as it does now). But after I click the ad away I have to choose a new XP goal (I keep the old one), say I won't buy a streak freeze (or something, I'm not sure what they are selling, I just click it away) and then there's another thing I need to click away before I get to the next lesson. That is annoying, especially as all these things need to be dismissed by clicking on different places of the screen like they decided to make it more difficult on purpose.

Edit. Oh the one thing I need to click away is "Double your 5 lingot wager". I currently have almost 2000 lingots and nothing to do with them (I'm using a browser that only allows me to give away one lingot at a time, so I won't be lingot bombing anyone any more). Why on Earth would I want more lingots?

Yes and on Android for a long time the button to skip ad was center bottom now most are top left but some are center bottom. Although I still dislike the "encouraging messages" that pop up during practice more than the ads.

Yup, and today I accidentally clicked on that button and now I'm not sure if I ended up paying for the add-free version or not. I sent a message to Duolingo about it, but I don't really trust them to react to it.

It keeps getting worse. Now it's:

      1. Finish lesson
      2. Ad shown, can't close it for several seconds
      3. Plea to subscribe to not see ads
      4. Select lingots coin chest
      5. Plea to watch another ad to get more lingots.

      It's incredibly annoying!
