Suggestion: auto-post incubator updates into the general discussion forum
I am very interested in the progress of all language courses in the incubator. While I won't study all of them, I always really appreciate the team updates. Checking into the different courses to see if a new update has been posted is tedious. If you don't open it in a new tab, when you come back to the splash page the course order has changed, which makes it impossible to look into all courses without overlooking one.
All to often no update at all has been posted. And many times, I just would like to upvote the updates. Detail questions can't be asked.
I imagine for the contributors that post the updates and for their team, it's like speaking into a black box. Nothing comes back. They don't receive any feedback, and that's not fair.
People always are very eager to know how courses are going. Please, Duolingo, make it a little bit easer for everybody, and when an update has been posted, auto-creating a thread for it must be one of the easiest things a suggestion thread has ever asked for.
Thank you for considering.
Morgengrauen, I like your idea! Luis had recently expressed that the incubator updates will eventually morph into something better. So I would wait and see the new design.
Incubation is an arduous and a long process and for the potential learners of the course, I can imagine it can get very hard to simply wait. Regular updates from the contributors hopefully can help in making that wait a little easier :) But if you think that the updates are infrequent, then probably the contributors are too busy working on the course and it might become more taxing to expect them to respond to the discussion that might follow :)
Having said that, I do believe that a weekly update from the contributors is a good way to communicate what is going on inside the 'black box'. And J-Steven's weekly compilation along with your (Morgengrauen) wonderful charts serves a great place to get a glimpse of all courses in one place. Seems like a fair compromise. Does it seem like one?
Where did he say that? Do you have a link?
I don't really want to speculate why there are weekly updates for some courses and not one update in 3 months from others. :) But in the case of the latter, the auto cross post would really save me some effort! :D
I think that might have been on the incubator chat. Sorry, no link. Team Duolingo keeps improving features at a fast pace, so personally I am not too worried about exactly when this might happen :)
On the other note, you will be happy to see a more healthy number of 'contributor' updates on this week's incubator update. Let us keep trying to encourage folks to share their progress with the community :)
I have a question and I cannot figure out where else to post it. How can I send and invitation to someone who is a monolingual speaker of a different language in their own language to join Duolingo?
