Over 60 skills changed to 4 out of 5 strength overnight. Technical Issue?
Not sure if this is an issue anyone else has encountered but it seems like a genuine technical issue as it's just too weird.
Normally, I have about 4 or 5, maybe 6 skill topics that change from full strength to 4 out of 5 overnight, as expected. However, I've just checked the app on my iPad and now on the website and now have over 60 that have gone from full to 4 out of 5 in just one night.
Surely this is a technical issue. Anyone else had this before and had it fixed somehow?
I'm not sure what's going on, but there HAVE been others experiencing this issue, so rest assured, you are not alone. There are others, but these two are just ones I found right now. https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22207775 https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22207988 It is rather odd, isn't it? Sorry I can't say more than that. Two more I have found: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22206131 and https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22206662
Yeah, that seems all you can do, really. As I said, nobody really knows what's going on, so the discussions are all up in a frenzy. But, for posterity's sake, or whatever else, I found two more discussions. Not really useful, or helpful (at this point in time) but eh. Make of it what you will, I suppose. https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22206030 https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22207483 Before I forget, though, good luck on strengthening your lost skills! Hopeful this'll be resolved soon...
Hi I have the same issue! Even the basic skills have changed from 5 to 4, which is very strange. I think it is a bug, lets hope they can fix it fast
It happened to me on all three languages. Which is quite frustrating because I always try to keep all those skills golden. Doing one does not seem to fix any others, so my suspicion is either a) bug or b) they added content and the tree won't consider a skill 5/5 unless you've done all the content.
All we can do is upvote all complaints on this until there's some sort of response from the team.
I've strengthened my Esperanto tree so much that only one or two skills per week decay and everything after the final checkpoint has gone down. Swedish, which I was very nearly done reguilding, has had half its skills decay. Literally every Italian skill except Basics 1 went down; some of them to just one. All overnight.
Let's "regroup" all reports about the recent (less than 24 hours apparently) bug with strengthening, in this discussion (already mentioned by Frisk95) which is [seems to be] the oldest one about this subject in the Troubleshooting forum.
Don't hesitate to upvote and comment that discussion so that it appears on top of the "Popular" tab.
Duolingo has been running an A/B test that boosted word strengths for some users. They have discontinued the test, so your word strength was simply reset to what it would be if you had not been in the test.
After analyzing this experiment, we have found that learners who were shown boosted word strengths are not performing as well as learners who were not shown boosted word strengths. Therefore, we have decided to turn off the boosted word strength experiment. This means that for some, it will appear as though their skill strengths have dropped for no apparent reason.
I have the same problem! But it happened while I was switching from the App to the website. On the app, everything is golden, on the website, about 15 of my skills have gone to 4 out of 5
I have the same thing! 17 of my 27 skills are down to 4. And I always strengthen.
I have the same issue. Dozens of my skill topics dropped from full to 4 overnight and I'm diligent about keeping them all gold along with practicing every day.
I spent 20 times the regular time I was willing to invest just to get all my skills back to what they were the day before yesterday. I don't think I'll be able to handle it, if it changes again overnight.
Same here. Duolingo apparently changed the algorithm while they did A B testing. It happened to lots of people, but hey, we are just their big test kitchen. Who cares that we lost huge numbers of days in our streaks and all the gold sections turned blue or red.
