A streak is the number of uninterrupted days of practice you have on DL. In your case, this is 5 and is indicated by the number next to the orange flame (next to your name in comments, and on your task bar).
A streak freeze allows you to go one day without practice, and still keep your streak. It must be bought ahead of time and will not advance your streak, but will keep it the same for one day.
A timed practice works much the same way as strengthen skills, but instead of 3 hearts, you start off with 30 seconds to answer 20 questions and will be awarded extra time for each correct answer. One advantage to timed practice is you get 'credit' (xp points) for each correct answer (unlike in the untimed practices where you must complete the session without losing all your hearts to get points).

You have to buy a Streak Freeze every time you use it.
We only have to purchase Timed Practice once and it's ours to keep. :-)
