Future Activity Stream?

I've heard that the removal of the activity stream was temporary, though I can't confirm this.

I also heard they plan to make a substitute for the activity stream. Again, I cannot confirm this, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

They are probably gonna separate activity from messaging, so you won't be able to post on streams anymore.

So what do you think they will use for messaging? Or will they get rid of messaging all together?

Luis said "In addition, we plan to incorporate better tools to communicate with other learners. We understand that social connections are essential, and we plan to expand social features and capabilities as soon as possible.", so yes I think they will bring better messaging.

Best case scenario: instant messaging

Worst case scenario: clubs!

I've heard that the removal of the activity stream was temporary

I didn't read that, where did you?
I read on official announcement by staff (the only ones relevant) that are that the functionality "Activity Stream" has been removed (definitely) but that they plan to introduce new social features (that may "compensate/replace" that withdraw, but not that the withdraw is temporary).

The word "compensate" scares me a bit. I'm pretty sure the "compensation" for Immersion was things like bots... which most agreed wasn't compensation at all. What does this mean?

It means what staff has in mind when they say "better tools to communicate with other learners".
Not being sure if those tools will really "replace" the activity stream hence I put two words (and quote marks) to have it has vague as I could, since it is what "better tools to communicate with other learners" sounds to me.
We can only do one thing: wait and see.

Everything that Duolingo does in the future had better be better than bots.

I honestly forgot where I heard that from. I wasn't a hundred percent sure it was temporary, though.

What you say is true according to Luis.

Ah, okay. They haven't told us what this substitute is, or when it's expected to be released. We might not see this substitute for a few months.

I'm hoping but not expecting. Either cautious optimism or relaxed pessimism.

You can also open the conversation in your email. I did that but I'm not sure if the people I contacted saw.
