Difference between bekommen and erhalten?

I think erhalten implies that you've been waiting or expecting what you got. Also erhalten is only for tangible objects, usually small enough to fit in your hands ('halten' means to hold so that's a good way to remember). Bekommen is more general and has less of an implication about what you received or how you received it. But it also implies that the process of receiving it is finished. here are some other 'to receive' verbs and when you use them: empfangen: this one's to like receive something that comes to you. In this way it's used for things like emails or texts. Also, you would use it for something that continues to come to you like a wifi connection or TV signal (sorry I can only think of technology examples for that one..) besorgen: used when you went somewhere (like to a store) and got something. But it's not limited to buying as you can use it if you when to your neighbors house for sugar or something. kriegen: the 'passive' getting of something. Implying you had no control over it. I'm pretty sure this can be used interchangeably with bekommen though.

I probably forgot a couple 'to receive' verbs but I hope this helps anyways! :)
