What is the difference between a buyer (mnunuzi) and a customer /client (mteja) ? Is it that mteja is only a potential mnunuzi ?

They come from two different verbs: "kununua" (to buy) and the origin of mteja cannot be found (in the dictionaries I know/use - nor my father :)) Customers (in different/other contexts) must not necessarily buy something. A spa customer/in a hotel etc. (though they do pay usually. :))

Synonyms are in every languages. I didn't find big differences in translations.

Exactly, the same question could be why does English have the word buyer and customer!

Man, that's a tongue twister in Swahili.
