If I cannot get rid of the health bar, I will get rid of the app, leave duoLingo, and move on.

I really like the duoLingo app, but the health bar limits my access. I make a typo, lose a heath bar. Forget the correct form of pronoun, lose a heath bar. Miss hear a word, lose a heath bar. Brain-toot, lose a heath bar. Within minutes, I can't use the app for 24+ hours. My roommate has the non-heath bar version. I would like the same thing.

The app works...when I get to use it. I've learned and am excited to keep learning, but as soon as I hit a spot where I struggle, my opportunity to improve is taken away.

I will try to reinstall my app, but if that does not work, I will delete my account and move on, but not after letting as many people as possible know not to waste their time downloading the app.

I don't have the health bar myself, but strengthening should still be available during the 24h. I think strengthening even brings health back, so that you are able to continue quicker.

That was my assumption: that the health bar only inhibits your ability to start new skills. I was hoping that you could strengthen old skills as much as you like. If this isn't the case then it is quite worrying.

I have the app on my ipad and it lets me get more health by strengthening the skills but I have the iOS app. It may be different on other devices. He may just be exaggerating how long it takes for the bars to come back. On my app, it takes only 2 hours for one bar to come back.

Thanks for the info.

They could be testing different variations to see how people respond. Like they had three different price points for streak repair.

They might be comparing things like: drop out rate vs amount of learning/revision vs Gem purchases ($)

Then choosing the best balance.

It might be that holding people back a bit, keeps them from taking on too much new stuff, and burning out, then leaving. And if someone feels they really must sprint through the tree, they could buy some Gems to make that possible.

As I don't have this health bar, I need to ask: If you cannot use the app for 24+ hours, how are you supposed to keep your streak intact?

I suggest you stop using the app. It's just a toned down braindead version of desktop. The only thing it's good for is keeping the streak going that's pretty much it.

Just use the website version, not the app. No health bar (which in the app annoyed me greatly too).

I'm furious, I've been using Duolingo for the past few months and have loved it. I paid an upfront fee for one year to support them. If I had known my learning would be restricted I would never have paid upfront. I feel entirely robbed and cheated by a program that offered me something for a price and then took it away. At the very least this health bar update should have instated after the year subscription I had already paid for expired. The definition of false advertisement!

I have just discovered that the latest version of the app (5.1.10) doesn't use the health bar anymore, so update it!!!

I don't like the health bar very much either, which is in part, why I stopped using the Duolingo app. To be fair, you can buy health or you can strengthen older skills to get more points but all in all it's just inconvenient. Especially when you're in the middle of a rather challenging lesson but then get kicked out of your lesson half way through because you ran out of health.

It is time for the Health bars to go away. I use it on my iPhone and ipad as I travel a lot and don't always have my computer with me and have to wait until I return home. Because my fingers are a little big I sometimes hit a wrong key on my phone and I loose a health bars. It takes to long to restore the bars, and when i'm in the process of learning new stuff and I lose all my health and can't continue to study the lesson I'm working on I lose my momentum in my studies. I think that Duo lingo is the best program out there, and I study all day everyday. every time I get a break I get out my phone and do a lesson or two. I can't understand what the Duo crew was thinking about, first when they started this process and then after a number of people have voiced their opposition to this health bar system. I wish that you'd simply restore the app to the way it was before and allow unlimited studying without interruption. There are many people like me that study all the time and sadly many who have just moved on to other language apps. to the moderators that might read this thank you and now it's time for you to do the RIGHT THING!
