Also paradise has a literal translation to "paradiso"
I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if "paradiso" (which I'm assuming comes from Portuguese) is a Christian word for "paradise" and "peponi" is the word for the Muslim concept of "paradise".
Would "Heaven" be an acceptable translation? Not very familiar with theology though
I know it is (or used to be) common for people to say of someone who had died: Mungu na amweke mahali pema peponi, which could be roughly translated as "May God rest his soul in Heaven" Certainly said by Christians, not sure about Muslims.
