When you find nonsense in the sentence discussions

If you find nonsense, such as "lol what the heck," "this is lame" or "asdlkgfalsdj," (or any other guideline-breaking comments) please send the link of the discussion (and specify which comment you think should be removed) to me or any other moderator. It is much more effective than simply down-voting. Thanks!

how about adding a button to quick flag it as such

We don't currently have such a button, so just copy the link of the discussion, head over to a mod's profile (here's mine), and make sure to specify which comment(s) you think should be deleted.

I do agree that such a button would be quite helpful, though.

Hi there! The sentence discussions are very important since they help explain key grammar topics. They're a great resource for the community. We're going to figure out an easier way to report. You can also email us discussion links at abuse@duolingo.com. The community mods are also definitely able to help (thanks Usagiboy7 for sharing that link) since they have the tools to delete. Thanks everyone!

If you want to report this stuff but don't know who the moderators are, here are a few of them:

If you are a forum moderator who would like to be on this page, please contact me.

Language contributors also have a page here: http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Incubator#Course_Contributors (We are looking for folks who are willing to help us work on this page. I am working on too many things and cannot take this project on right now.)

I understand the importance of maintaining a certain standard to keep it helpful to users. At the same time, I found it's also funny and interesting to read some funny jokes in comment sections as long as it's not too excessive or offensive. haha

I completely agree. If it's inevitable that someone will make a joke about it, I usually leave the joke. If there are too many, I delete the ones that are practically saying the same thing or aren't funny.

Agreed. The up/down votes seem to take care of keeping what's interesting near the top. If I run into one of those "nonsense" sentences I often head straight to the comments to see if there are any laughs to be found there.

Brilliant! I am really happy to see this. That noise bothers me to no end. I have just been down-voting, though, because I didn't want to bother our poor over-worked moderators with complaints.

Don't be afraid to send them to us! It doesn't bother us at all.

I suggested a "Report Dumb Thread" button months ago, lol - specifically for the nonsense posts that people start for no reason, not necessarily for dumb comments within a valid thread.

I agree; it would be very helpful. I know that you like to look through (and help in) the sentence discussions, so next time you find any of those types of comments, feel free to let me (or any other mod) know.

How do you do this in the (Android) mobile app? That could be another reason to implement a "report this" button.

It's not possible currently.

Why is this discussion in Spanish?

March 18, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Samsta

Originally, I was trying to direct it toward the people who help in the Spanish discussions, because that's where I usually moderate. It seems that I should have posted it in the General discussion. Perhaps I'll move it.

EDIT: If I move it to the General discussion, very few people will see it. I might make another post in the General discussion (with a link to this one) later.
