Duolingo works

I do a lot of griping about websites, about their legibility, how they are meant to work, and whether they work correctly. Duolingo must be doing quite well because I don't feel motivated to gripe about it all the time. To start with, it's legible. The text is generally big enough to read and the text and background colors for the critical parts are normal, medium to high contrast in intensity, and normal, medium to high contrast in colors, and never use a hideous color scheme. I rarely have any errors, no missing sound files, no distorted or muddy sounds, no lag before playing sounds. I don't know exactly what about the format makes me come here more regularly than almost anything else in my life but whatever it is I'm glad I found it.

I sometimes have a complaint about Duolingo.....but never strong enough to mention in light of other programs. Duo is awesome.

Many people are in the habit of wishing for a slew of customizations and options. Although, obviously not directly counter to that, I think this is a good summary of the reason Duolingo is so hesitant to go in that direction.

I think one thing Duo has going for it is that it can send all the sound it's going to need for a lesson or review session as that session is loading, when there is a delay, although it feels like a small one. Sessions can seem laggy to me. I wonder if you're on the new website? Apparently it'll be here soon enough for all of us.

I suspect if you journeyed beyond the human-recorded Esperanto course you'd find some objections to sound quality. I myself tend to find acute accents devilishly hard to make out, and the default font doesn't support all the characters needed for Duolingo courses, making a handful look out of place, but, yeah, it's hard to fault layout and whatnot.
