What is the difference between gehst and fährst, I understand that both are used as a verb to go.

I go to the store vs I drive to the store although fahren can also mean travel to the store. All roughly equivalent

gehen in German most often refers to walking somewhere on foot -- in English, it's a lot more vague and can imply any sort of travelling.

fahren is something like "move on wheels": to drive a car, to ride along in a car, to ride a bicycle, to ride on a train.
