Why'd you have to announce it twice? Congratulations, nonetheless.

How did you get to learn Japanese already?

May 2, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/Zerr_
  1. Go to the drop-down list of languages you're learning.

  2. Hover over one, but instead of clicking it, right-click it, do inspect element, and go to the line where it says this: li class="language-choice " data-value="xx".

  3. Replace the two letters (represented here with "xx") with "ja".

  4. Click on the language option whose data value you changed.

  5. You are now in the Japanese Alpha course.

I've tried doing that, but each lesson keeps giving me only two words to translate over and over again, like, 20 times... even though the preview shows at least six new words in each lesson. I can only hope the official course won't be like this...

It shows six new words because in the alphabet lessons, each hiragana is counted as an individual word.

It gets better later on. Besides, they're still working on the course. This is still in Alpha, remember?

Wow, that's amazing. You deserve some lingots. But is it not against the rules?

May 2, 2017

https://www.duolingo.com/Zerr_

No. It's actually good, because the course creators can get feedback without having the massive amounts of beta testers that will happen once it's officially released.

For the most part, the alpha testers are only people on the forums and subreddit, so it's probably only in the hundreds instead of tens of thousands like it would be if in beta.

Oops. Yes, sorry, I thought I'd put it in there. Edited.

What about English for Tagalog speakers? Can I do it with this one also?

The Japanese course is currently in Alpha mode, which means that the mods allow some users in to do pre-beta testing. This hack would theoretically work with any course in Alpha mode, but Japanese is the only course currently in Alpha (all other pre-beta courses are in incubating mode).

Thank you for the explanation!

Wow! Does this work for all pre-beta language courses? If not, how can we know whether it will work? Tried for Hindi and Korean and neither allowed me in.

You can't, but if you do it on the computer version, you can access it on any platform.

So glad I read this. This helped a lot. But now that I'm in it it won't let me do past a certain lesson. I guess that's because it's still in Alpha.
