I was an amateur radio ham, and we had a special alphabet because, for example, a third of the letters sounded like "E" (for example, LOL would be Lima Oscar Lima). Police have their own version ("Adam 12"). Since almost all letters in the Esperanto alphabet sound like "O", is there such an alphabet for it?
Yes, there is! Or to put it better, there are:
https://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literuma_alfabeto#Esperanto (even if you don't understand Esperanto yet, you will able to understand the tables. Scrool down to "Internaciaj kaj Nacilingvaj" and you will see those examples you mentioned)
There are also simple alternative alphabets that don't use entire words, but rather other short names for the letters:
- in English: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto_orthography#Names_of_the_letters_of_the_alphabet
- in Esperanto: https://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanta_alfabeto#Alternativaj_nomsistemoj
Have you ever heard of International League of Esperantist Radio Amateurs (ILERA)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_League_of_Esperantist_Radio_Amateurs (this page is also available, and far more thorough, in Esperanto: https://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internacia_Ligo_de_Esperantistaj_Radio-Amatoroj)
