Switching between courses in the new website

I'm sorry if someone has already posted this before, but I could not find it in the discussion board or in search.

Switching between "English -> Spanish" and "Spanish -> English" courses was already difficult in the old website, but the new website has added a few more steps. Now you have to go all the way to the page that has all the courses, change the language to Spanish, pick the English course, and then on the next page you can go to the course. (the same process vice-verse).

Is there an easier way for switching in the new website that I have not discovered yet?

Or, you can construct the URL for the course and switch there. For example, Español for English looks like this:
https://www.duolingo.com/course/es/en
Or English for Español:
https://www.duolingo.com/course/en/es/
These are ISO 639-1 codes for languages.

There's also a new course switcher script jrikhal has written, I haven't used it and can't verify anything.

Thank you!!! That shortens the switch process incredibly, and also reduces chance of error. I will use your shortcuts rather than the script.

If you click the flag next to the language you are learning on your home page, it will bring you to a drop down menu where you can pick any course

It only brings up the languages you're learning in one particular language. For instance, I'm learning Spanish from English and also the reverse tree (English from Spanish), but it doesn't show both in the same drop down. Though I believe that it should.

Apparently this functionality has been limited on the new website to courses from your current base language. So much for "you won't notice any differences except increased speed"!

But wasn't it the same in the old website as well? So technically there is no difference in this functionality!

On the old website clicking the flag brings you to a menu where you can choose from every tree on Duolingo — from every base language.

Nope, I think you are/were using a userscript on the old website! :-) Like DuoTweak or Course Switcher.

The reference as I understood it was to the flag to the top left of your current skill tree, not the flag immediately next to your avatar. This, in fact, takes you to a menu with all 69 currently available courses on the old website. [Shockingly enough perhaps, I have never used any userscripts.]

@piguy3 in response to "The reference as":

Oh, my apologies. As a matter of fact, I've very recently discovered that button!
Then you'll be less frustrated at (some) userscripts not working on the new website, and the staff not having implemented their functionality! Ugh!

Assuming it's correct that this comprehensive switching functionality has been disabled with the new website, then I'd say it's actually all the more annoying that alternatives are the more circumscribed ;)

I suppose I am well equipped to survive lapses in userscripts more generally, but I have five base languages I work from. I am fortunate that all the relevant strings happen to begin with different letters, so navigating that otherwise ungainly menu has never really been an issue.

I use the app so I don't have any of the user written scripts but I. Think I read that the guy who wrote the old one to simplify switching was working on a new one you might search discussion using switch as search term
