Can anyone answer me please, will I retain my streak if I learn offline with Duolingo Plus? Would allow me to travel into the wilderness of Africa again without losing my streak

It will still probably require a daily connection to sync your work. Just like Memrise.

However, if they could design it to support multi-day sync, or some sort of holiday mode, I think that Duolingo Plus could become a big earner for them. Even if people only purchase it for the months they are on holiday (or off the grid).

Edit: Just to point out that offline, beyond what we have already, may not be available yet. AFAIK blocking adverts may be the only functionality that Duolingo Plus offers today. Unless anyone has better information?

Edit: Hmmm. The following quote is in the present tense. So either they have already extended the offline functionality, or they have taken the existing functionality and made it private to subscribers.

Additionally, with Duolingo Plus you get access to offline lessons so you can continue practicing without an Internet connection

Note: I think the existing offline functionality worked fine - it was the sync that sucked. Rarely did it keep my progress when I reconnected to the Internet.

However, this second quote talks about new offline functionality in the future. My interpretation is that for now, it is the same old offline functionality that we are used to.

Yes, this will be much more extended. The old offline feature will still be available for free.

Indeed :P, I was also wondering "is this guy basing his decision to go to Africa on whether he'll be able to maintain his streak or not" :P.

Another question would be if he'd even be able to recharge his battery plenty enough in Africa.

Very unlikely no as the server (which needs to be online) will not take it into account unless you constantly use your lingots (10 lingots) for putting on streak freeze from the lingot store! ^U^

I read the few things available online reviews and none of them had tried it yet. You might want to get someone to login for you and do basic 1

I tried it last year on a trip to Africa, I hoped the subscription will secure me from getting a sim/internet as soon as possible and my old 400 day streak was gone. I was very unhappy about it as it even offered me the next time online to get my streak back for $49, I already invested in plus and they could not manage to sync a local offline activity with a remote state. If I could wish for a feature, this would it be.

I doubt it.

A streak is stopping you?

I understand why you don't want to lose your streak. It certainly is just a number but it does represent and remind you of all your hard work. Enjoy Africa, such a beautiful country. Ciao, Linda

Thank goodness I thought you were crazy. The app plus is so new I have not seen any feedback if I were you I'd try getting it turning off WiFi on your phone and testing it yourself you can cancel if it doesn't work. Enjoy your trip
