Please Remove the Fluency Percentage

It doesn't make any sense. Both me and my friend have recently started doing the German course, and although I probably do make 1 or 2 more mistakes than him, he has 26% and I have been dropped to 6%. I try to make as few mistakes as possible and keep practicing the skills but it is so demoralizing to have the percentage continue to go down while I have no way of improving it.

Most of us that have been around here for awhile will tell you to ignore the fluency baloney. Ignore it; have a great day!

Just ignore it. It has nothing to do with real fluency.

If you want to "remove" the fluency percentage, there is a script here: http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Duolingo_Userscripts
You can hide/unhide it whenever you want.

My personal fluency % is like 40-50....somewhere in there. I think. However, that number is very misleading in that my REAL fluency is probably closer to 10-20% if I'm lucky. My advice is to only compete with yourself. Don't worry about arbitrary numbers some program assigns to your work. You are doing fine.

    I agree, it's a rather useless distraction.

It mostly likely is going down because you're doing new skills without any kind of revision of the old material. Reviewing will increase your %, doing new skill only is likely what's killing your %.

I agree that it is demoralizing, too, to "play a game" with one score that absolutely nothing you can do will change. I also agree that we ourselves are the best judges of our own fluency, but wouldn't it be nice to know that you could somehow make work hard enough to make the fluency score agree?

It seems that the one thing we all agree on is that the fluency score is more or less meaningless, so really, if it can't be fixed, why keep it?

Just ignore It. It is very unnecessary. And misleading.

FWIW, here is how Duo staff explain the fluency score: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/19032758
