I watched him on French TV the other night... (no subtitles, obviously)... he was being very careful. There's a clip of him encouraging Amerian scientists to go and work in France... that's a very interesting one, too. You can hear all the words that French natives struggle with when they speak English ;) It's also a very interesting speech in its own right.

Interesting! My TV subscription offers the same French news channel - France 24. Since I am learning French, I occasionally switch up to it, but despite completing majority of the skill tree and being 50%+ fluent, I can't understand what is being said, but can make out a bit from the words. Do you have any tips on how to improve? My listening skills are really bad, although I am fine with words. I guess that's Duo's weakness too - it does not give us enough listening practice but drills us with the written text. And that too most lessons are not really helpful in beginner/daily life conversation. So basically, how can I improve my listening skills, especially with this French news channel?

Well, I am not sure who you can improve your listening skills on your own. The two foreign languages I can listen to and converse in are English and to a lesser degree French: I have learned both languages in school, where we practiced a lot; and I have spent considerable time in the respective countries not as a tourist, but in real immersion.

However, on your own you could ideally watch movies in French with French subtitles or listen to audiobooks while reading the text at the same time. This requires a good knwoledge of vocabularies so you can focus on the audio and don't have to look up words all the time, though.
