Why is ir preferred here over ser?

This is wrong. The Portuguese says 'The season goes from February to March.'

But the English given is 'The season IS from February to March.'

Which would be 'A temporada e de fevereiro a marzo.'

Yet the correct answer is marked wrong

why is season (a temporada) station (estacao)?

Estação could be of buses, trains, radio,tv, and so on. But we also use that as seasons of the year. "No ano, temos quatro estações". The english word season can be also translated as temporada, as stated on duolingo sentence
