Lost my 694 day streak due to software error?!?!

I did my practice yesterday afternoon (~7:30 pm local time), I even got the confirmation and the given lesson shows at full strength in the app now. However the program is asking for 11 Euro to restore my streak? Really? How can i get back my streak? Last time, a few weeks ago i really missed my lesson and i had to pay for restoring it, but now i did my lesson and i received the confirmation.

As i am up today at midnight i wanted to do my daily lessons before going to bed, but found that my streak is gone? Really? You want me to pay again? I am a bit upset (well not a bit....)

The three most common reasons for losing a streak are:

  • you're working on a phone or a tablet, and your phone / tablet hasn't been able to synchronise its data with the server.

  • your daily target is set to more XP than you did yesterday.

  • you've travelled across timezones, and Duolingo's using the time zone you travelled from.

The first is the most likely - that your mobile device hasn't synchronised.

It's always a good idea to buy a streak freeze if you care about your streak, and to check every now and then that it's still active. It's also a good idea to use the website to check that your phone / tablet has synchronised with the server.

The same happened to me. I practiced on Sunday but the app took a very long time to move beyond the lesson complete screen. I think maybe it couldn't connect and the progress was never logged properly. It's a bit odd since I was able to move on and do the next lesson the next day, but I can't figure out anything else. I lost a 435 (I believe) day streak. Honestly I wouldn't really care all that much but I resent being asked to pay $9.99 to restore it every time I open the app. Asking once was enough and I'm not giving them money to fix a mistake that wasn't mine.

You seem to have a 695 day streak on this post. Has Duolingo re-instated it? Or did you pay to have it reinstated?

hughcparker: In my case "you're working on a phone or a tablet, and your phone / tablet hasn't been able to synchronize its data with the server." seem to happened. BUT the mobile app gave me the signal that it is done and it also set the lesson to complete and incremented the days. This should not happen if the app was unable to upload the data to the server.

Thus i lost my streak due to a software error and not due to my fault
