This seems mean.

Oui, c'est méchant. ;)

you know, just in case you need to tell this to someone...

ah, mais tu es méchant

Ironic that the adjective is written the same way as the English laid in 'getting laid'.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/DuFarge

Yeah, well if you're 'laid' you're probably not getting ....

not ironic that fat/big is "gros"

There goes your friendship

now we can tell someone they are fat and ugly... good start for the county of romance :)

Just because someone is fat, it does not necessarily follow that they are ugly. Especially when nowadays fashion dictates 'fat' is a size 10!

hi... I'm not saying fat is ugly...I'm saying we know how to use the vocab. European 10 cool. USA 10 ~ fat.

Can this also mean that someone is behaving in an ugly manner? Discourteous, etc? Does 'laid' HAVE to refer only to appearance?

No, "laid" can mean physically ugly or morally corrupt -- repugnant in one way or another.
