Sign Language

Our state (TN) just passed a law for sign language to count as a foreign language credit for high school. I know more deaf people locally than people who don't speak English, and so duolingo should offer this as a class. I hope there is a lot of support for this, because it's very relevant and supported. I'm going to be taking a class for it next year and I could really use the help.

There's currently no video support for Duo's courses, so it would require a lot of work, but here's hoping.

I love this idea!

But would it be U.S english sign language or U.K english sign language?

It would be nice to have both, but maybe have one that generally covers a lot of similar terms

ASL (American Sign Language) and BSL (British Sign Language) are totally different languages. You couldn't have one course to cover both.

ASL is more closely related to French Sign Language than it is to British Sign Language.

Ok I'm only familiar with ASL or ESL. I guess they would just have to have enough hires for each language

English sign language? Do you mean American Sign Language or British Sign Language? Or do you mean SEE, aka, Signed English or Signed Exact English?

I would hope Duolingo would NOT consider SEE since it is considered oppressive by many within the Deaf Community.

In the meantime Memrise can get you started they have video support. I would suggest doing asl 1&2 then introduction because introduction has some signs I don't think are popular and many are a repetition
