“Lévanse como o can e o gato”

Ola! Aquí estamos de novo outra semana máis! O dito desta semana é unha frase moi utilizada por tódalas ávoas galegas as cales úsana cando dous irmáns, por exemplo, están todo o día discutindo e facéndose rabiar o un o outro. Quere dicir algo como non podedes estar xuntos se non é molestándoos o un e o outro e a vez non sábedes estar separados.

Como veredes, o dito menciona a dous animais “o can” e “o gato”. Quixemos poñer este dito como introducción polo feito de que o tema desta semana son os animais. Cremos que é interesante que sepades como se din en galego algúns animais moi coñecidos por todos e que incluso é probable que moitos de vos os teñades nas vosas casas. Esperamos que vos resulte interesante o tema e como tódalas semanas esperamos que vos divertades con este pequeno apartado para aprender galego. Xuntos conseguiremos que Duolingo nos falla caso e pódase estudar galego dende alí!

Hi! Here we are again for another week! This week’s saying is a very commonly used phrase by Galician grandmothers, who use it when, for example, two brothers or sisters have been arguing with each other all day. It means that they can’t be together without annoying each other, and they also don’t know how to be apart.

As you see, the saying mentions two animals: ‘the dog’ and ‘the cat’. We wanted to give this saying to introduce our topic this week: animals. We believe that it would be interesting for you to know how to say the names in Galician of many famous animals, that you may even have in your house. We hope that you’ll find our lesson interesting, and, like every week, we hope that you enjoy yourselves with this short post to learn Galician. Together we’ll get Duolingo to pay attention and let people study Galician with a full course!

Hi. There is a song with a line "cada gato co (?) seu rato". Are used "rato" and "ratón"?

Thank you. I asked because you wrote "O ratón". Which one is the preferred word?

Oh! I didn't spot that, sometimes we accidentally write some things in Spanish instead of Galician, because (basically) everyone in Galicia speaks both. Thank you. To clarify: ratón was a mistake

EDIT: Ok, looks like we were having a really bad day when we made that lesson, we basically taught everyone Spanish. All animals now use their correct names in Galician

Wow. There were words (especially "loro") that should have been suspicious, but I was in "automatic pilot".
