Incubator: Languages Completion Dates.
I was looking at the incubator page and I noticed it says "Estimated completion date": Is that completion date true? I mean, as you can see in the picture, it says "Estimated Completion Date: April 15, 2014". Is it for sure that it will be ready at that time, or is it just a guessing? Sorry if my question is a bit silly, but I never noticed this (despite I have been on Duolingo for 6 months). I wonder if that date is a real reference of time, or just a random thing.
Thanks in advance, cheers from Chile!
P.S. Thanks to @1bimic who taught me how to upload a picture here! :)
I think it extrapolates from the work that has already been done to predict when it will be completed.
That's why brand new courses (for example, all the languages recently started for English speakers) will have really far off dates, while the dates given for courses that are almost done are much more accurate. The new courses just don't have much information to predict the future pace from yet.
So, they change the Completion Date as they build the tree? In this photo it says April 15, but it can change as they keep building it?
Yes, the estimated completion date changes if their pace changes.
So if one contributor has a particularly great day (or few days), or a new team member is brought on board, the date will move up. If all of them suddenly get busy at work/school/life, it will get pushed back. It's generated by the incubator and changes automatically to best guess when it will be finished.
Or at least that's my understanding of how it works.
I also have a question: Is the estimated date an approximate time for release into Beta, or graduation from Beta?
