LingoVocab updated [3/19]: Revive the vocabulary feature
I decided to start a new thread because the old one is buried in the haystack of discussions. If you are using Firefox and Chrome, and you like the old Vocabulary feature, which is currently missing from Duolingo, you should consider give this Userscript a try. If you haven't heard of LingoVocab, a more detailed description can be found here:
- I have noticed that the strength bar is broken due to a slight change in the DOM layout. This is now fixed.
- Fixed a bug causing disfigured layout when leaving the individual word page.
- I don't know how much of you don't feel like practicing an individual word. I personally would prefer to practice multiple words at once. At first I thought to implement a flashcard feature, allowing users to review the weakest words in a lesson. But I realized that even if the flashcard is implemented, it won't refresh the word strength. So I decided to extend the word practice functionality a little bit by implementing a experimental feature, with more details below.
Practicing multiple words
Now if you click the "Vocabulary" button, you will see a blue dumbbell button, which allows you to practice the weakest 5 words in current lesson.
This feature is still working in progress, and you may expect updates for this feature to arrive frequently. Currently, the progress bar may be inaccurate as you may have more questions than what the progress bar may indicate.
I also plan to provide you some settings about the sorting of vocabulary list (by strength, or by last seen time), and the number of words you would like to practice together).
Also, I may want to tweak the XP you would gain by practicing multiple words.
I'll update this thread once new features arrive.
When I finish the word practice, I can't click on the 'Continue' button.
This looks good! I've installed it and am looking forward to giving it a go. Thank you for making and sharing. :-D Lingot pour vous!
I like it but the continue button doesn't work, and once you complete the lesson, it says "Lesson Complete! +XP" as opposed to "+10XP."
Yes. I noticed this bug. Will fix it soon. The +XP issue is a Duolingo bug, but I'll see if there is someway to somehow fix this.
I don't know if there is extension in Safari allowing you to install Userscript. Cautiously I would say you can use this script with Firefox (install GreaseMonkey extension) or Chrome (install TamperMonkey extension).
I have to re download each time I restart firefox. Now today (~14:00-14:30 EDT) the function has disappeared. I even tried to re load, but nothing is there.
That's quite strange. Do you have to reinstall Greasemonkey, or the userscript itself?
