Progress Quiz gone - A/B test or not?

I'm at a point where I would usually do a progress quiz to check how I stand, since I don't want to solely rely on golden skills or the fluency percentage, but it disappeared for me, there's still a "Quiz History" link when I'm on the discussion page (but only there, probably because I'm on the rewritten website), but it leads to a 404-Error.

Is it gone for everyone like the activity stream or is it an A/B test? If it's the latter, do any recent accounts have it? As in, would it help if I made a new account to test my progress or is it gone forever?

Thanks for the replies!

Hi tiramisues,

Could you relocate this discussion in the “Troubleshooting" forum? Which is the place meant for such discussion. Thx!

To relocate it (*), edit your original post then select said forum in the drop-down menu on top-left of the edition area (see here for details).

(*) \/!\ please, don’t create a new one \/!\

Have a look to this short guide to help you knowing where to post your (future) discussions on Duolingo’s forums.

Is it an A/B test?

I don't know if it's a bug for you or if it's due to the A/B test but there is indeed an A/B test on quiz for months.
However, impossible to know if Duo made some changes recently on "who is in which group of the A/B test", so can't be sure if the recent change for you is due to the A/B test or not.

Relocating it to the Troubleshooting Forum now.

Thanks for the answer! - That's weird, because it's probably a more or less recent development for my account. I don't know for sure, since I just noticed, but the last time it was definitely available was weeks rather than months.

The A/B test is here at least since May 2016 (it's not a typo, it's 2016 ;)).
Hence I see two possibilities:

  1. Duo changed recently the groups, and you were one of the account to be changed.
This would mean they(re increasing the proportion of users without it. Since they generally test changes first on new accounts then have a proportion of new accounts with the tested change that is larger than the proportion of old accounts with the tested change, it makes it more unlikely that creating a new account will have the quiz.
  2. Your account is just experiencing a bug.

Then I'm hoping me missing the quiz is a bug and not the appearance of the dead link to my quiz history. I just tested making a new account, which didn't have the quiz, but that link wasn't there either. Could still be both since the new account of course doesn't have a quiz history, but who knows.

I hope Duolingo decides to keep it, it's really useful! Thanks for your answers though!

Sadly it is not a bug. They recently removed the quiz and the quiz history from (some) accounts. In my case some weeks ago, as my account was actualized and I got a new website design. And I also think, that this was a useful function (as other removed options) and I want it back too.

Thanks for the info!

I seriously hope the A/B test fails and the progress quiz comes back! As a workaround I just did the placement test with the new account I made to see where it'd put me. That's at least something, even if it's not as accurate.

Yes, I do the same, but it´s not like the quiz. I hope, the quiz will be back soon. Maybe they will improve this feature, so that one can see the weak and strong points... :-)

We can always hope! An improved version would be great!

Concurring with InuzukaShino, I believe the lack of progress quiz to be a "feature" of the new website.

May 19, 2017

Urgh... In German colloquial speech we have a word for that: "verschlimmbessern" it means you are making things worse with your "improvements". I really think it applies to Duolingo sometimes...

May 19, 2017

What a fantastic word!

Indeed, they promised the user interface wouldn't change with the new website. That is from what I can tell very much a promise not kept.

May 19, 2017

Exactly! I get why userscripts stopped working, that's just part of a rewrite (albeit an annoying one), but letting actual features disappear without a word and letting us find out by ourselves is just bad practice.

And even if it's not because of the new website, but an A/B test I fear the worst, it's been going on for a year and they added more testers to it, seems like they are phasing it out like Immersion...
