What Happened to the Stream?
I have been wondering what happened to the private streams for discussions. I have gotten notifications that someone posted on my stream, but for some reason I can't find it. Also, when I comment in other people's streams, I will leave that page, and when I return my comment is gone! I would be extremely grateful if someone understands and can tell me what is going on. Thank you!
The Death Star flew by and obliterated all traces of the Activity for everyone!
The Activity servers were located on Alderaan because Alderaan gave Duolingo very low rates. Alderaan used to have the lowest server rates in that entire star system which is why the Empire targeted them for a test of the Death Star.
Staff removed it about a month ago, because it was a resource hog and threatening to crash the servers. They are working on providing us with different communication tools.
The announcement: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22226909
It has about 1200 or more comments so if you decide to read it, right-click and open in a new tab ;-)
From reading Luis's latest AMA it looks like the only different communication tools we will ever get is chat bots. Rip activity.
The truth is the Activity serves were located on Alderaan and went down with everything else when the Death Star destroyed it.
And as we conclude this discussion of activity we go out with the force in our hearts. LOL!
I went to activity and it was like, "you have no friends. Get some friends now." First of all, this hurt my feelings. Second of all, I do have friends on here so I don't get why it is bullying me...
You can access a private stream to a discussion through a message in your email. Notice that the discussion is going to be in an address like this one: "www.duolingo.com/event/A_NUMBER", and not in the "www.duolingo.com/activity_stream".
The other person must receive an email notification too in order to access the discussion.
It seems like the ".../event" is a global activity_stream, if you change the number, you are going to see other events from other people like the old activity_stream.
