Yup, more or less, except you missed the "erst", which in this sentence could be translated as "just". And I'd say you sat "by" the furnace/oven.

A bit of googling tells me the complete sentence is Das Schmuckstück des Hauses war und ist der schöne Ofen, an dem ich erst kürzlich wieder bei einem Stück Kuchen mit der Familie saß., which is a bit less clunky: The gem of the house was and is the beautiful furnace, by which I just recently sat having a piece of cake with the family.

Oops, indeed.

So a translation of the whole sentence could be: The gem of the house was and is the beautiful furnace, by which I just recently sat having a piece of cake with the family again.

I think this is a beautiful illustration of how long sentences work just fine in German, but quickly get unwieldy and ugly in English, where it's better to break them up into shorter ones. :-)
