Gr. καπέλο, En. cap, Fr chapeau and similar all come from It cappello from La cappa/ cap. From La cappa we have the Sw kappa/ coat

It would seem that they both come from the I-E root kauput- / káput which account for among others "chapel" or 'capella" nd καπελο.
