Interested in learning Hungarian

my great-grandma was Hungarian as so was her family. I’m a little bit sad that this language has disappeared from my family... (but if not, we would speak three languages - Hungarian, English, and Danish) But you know when immigrants came to the U.S they chose not to teach their children their mother tongue because they thought "We are In the U.S. now we must speak English". So I figured I might want to try it, I also like the sound of it. I would also like to take a trip to Hungary in the future.

I think it will be worth my time. But I don't think a lot of people speak it outside of Hungary.

The language really isn't like any other..

How long did it take you to advance to A1?

How did you practice speaking other talking to yourself?

Hungarian is not only spoken in Hungary! There is a sizeable Hungarian speaking population in Romania and in other surrounding countries, too.

Good luck! I find it to be a tough but quite logical language.

My advice is to learn some basic words, phrases and questions "How do you spell that?, What does that mean? etc." - just to prevent the feeling of being lost in it - then get a language parent, someone to talk with. That's going to make things go relatively easier and faster. Practice the language, play with it. So just... have fun when you're spending your time on it. :) Listen to music for example Akkezdet Phiai. "A valósággal az a gáz hogy nincsen hozzá háttérzene/ja, kérdés hogy át érzed-e" kinda: "Reality has no background music, what a pity/ the question is: if you have experience with it". You will learn so so much... I am Hungarian and can help you if you need it. :)

Hi Slwesley09, I am a Hungarian, my mother tongue (or language) is Hungarian. Greetings and I'm so happy that you want to learn in Hungarian. Good luck to my original language. As you see, I learn on Duolingo many languages, but my English is not good yet. The Hungarian language is unique, it is a national treasure, really.
