Mods and Admin I need your advice
So are there guidelines for Duolingo Avatar Shops, first of all obviously use common sense but what else?
I am not aware of any official rules specifically for avatar shops, but definitely make sure you stay within the general guidelines: don't ask for anyone's email, for example. Be transparent so that there's no risk of folks thinking you're scamming them for lingots (XP contest posts get deleted and accounts get restricted because of stuff like that). Be careful to make it clear that you do not represent Duolingo in any official capacity so that you can't be accused of impersonating a moderator/admin/staff.
To add to this, since I've come across this a few times. Also don't go around advertising your shop when it is not related to the discussion and/or post.
To give an example.
- If someone is wondering what to do with their lingots it's fine to tell them you make avatars.
- On a discussion about e.g. German grammar there is no need to talk about your shop and hence is off topic.
Please may I ask why this has happen for the 3rd time? I have come up with the "Duo Shop idea, and everyone is actually stealing this from me. This is getting stressful actually! At least if the shop's avatar was different, but this shop has my name. I don't know what to do. People think that the original Duo Shop is one of these other shops and I get a bad reputation. Please if any moderators see this, help out. :(
In all fairness I have seen people creating/selling avatars before you started. However, I do agree that people that have the same idea shouldn't use pretty much the same name and exactly the same avatar.
In this case I thought you created this post so it's easy to see that people get confused. So I think it's fair to ask DuoShop to take this into consideration.
