Strengthening same skills everyday....
I'm getting really sick of getting off at the end of the day, having just gotten all 20 questions right while strengthening a skill, and then coming back the next day, and it's not gold anymore. Extremely annoying.
Hey there! Check this out, it is an userscript made to show exactly how strong your skills are, it may help you: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/6561977/Skill-Strength-Userscript
As for strengthening skills, I find that "Timed practice" has far greater effect than ordinary one. After I get a skill golden, I practice it one more time, and its safe for the next week or two.
I'm also using the skill strength viewer userscript to decide when to rewise the skills. But it's still annoying seeing so many skills not gold, that really should be. If the skill strength viewer says it's at 60% there should not be two bars missing, especially if I can get through the timed practice with a good result if not a 20/20.
It takes away some of the motivation to study. Which is weird, because it's only a color on a screen, but still why should I repeat something I know and my perfectionism stops me from progessing too far in the tree while there are so many non-golden skills. With the userscript I can try to fight my perfectionism, but it'd be better to have a change on duolingos side.
I suspect there's an A/B test going on with a fairly large number of people having their word strength set to diminish quickly.
If you're curious, you can hit the F12 key and then click on "Console" and enter the command duo.user.attributes.ab_options. This will give you information on which test groups you're in.
I suspect the one involved is one or more of the following:
For the first two of these, I have the value "false" and for the third ".1," and I have what I would consider a manageable amount of degilding, although it's more than it was before a different test was ended a month or so ago. If you have "true" or a higher number, that could well be the cause of the issue. Note that I don't know what the "default" value for the third test is, and it's possible I'm in a test group with a low number. If others would give their values, we might get a better idea what's going on.
