It seems popular for the Spanish speakers. I wonder how well it will do for Portuguese.

Portuguese are some of the most keen learners.

There are lots of Esperanto speakers in Brazil, so I think it will do very well.

Its brilliant isn't is? Comes with added bonus of a pretty nice community and the feeling of making real progress in a language so quickly.

Great achievement. Some would be overlapping (EN/ES), but the daily growth is 2,300 compared to 930 1/2 year ago. Soon it would convert to growth of 800k/year.

With conservative 50% 'unique' Spanish learners (which should grow as they will not go to ENEO, once ESEO out of beta) it should reach guaranteed unique 1mn just on time for the 130 yr EO anniversary in July.

Many more than for the other languages, I think. This is one statistical measure.

No, I'm just saying, just because there are "A milion users " does not mean that there are 1 million more speakers out there in the world. It's much much more likely that there is less than 1/10th of a percent of that many new speakers out there. People on sites like this get way too hung up on the statistics.

https://www.duolingo.com/BerberuEsperanto

Statistics is manipulated mainly by politicians, corporations and powerful. Esperanto is neutral. Considering it's easier, it's likely 10x higher success rate/level than other languages.

Most importantly, the awareness is critical for Esperanto. When (next year) we have 2mn Duolingo learners it will make a significant impact on the awareness, as EO doesn't have the financial backing that powerful countries have. It works on moral/hope, which will live forever. EO 1st, Trump 2nd.

871k EN>EO+130K ES>EO ~=1mn. However, some are the same individuals on both EN+ES. In the future, the ES speakers would go directly to their more fluent language instead of trying the EN 1st, so the growth can be counted unadjusted.

The good thing is that the next 1m will be mush faster, maybe in 1 yr (just for EN+ES). With PT even faster.

We need more source languages or EO to other languages.

Tre bone!

Wikipedia (which is often misleading and out of date) reports (from 1999) that there are between 100,000 and (from 1996) 10 million speakers of Esperanto worldwide. Thanks to Duolingo, and to the devoted Esperanto speakers who learn here, that number has increased by another million people in a relatively short space of time. Unu lingvo neniam sufiĉas! :-)
