Having trouble now with Duolingo on my laptop.

What's wrong with Duolingo? today there are unwanted ads appearing that I can't delete but worse, when I strengthen any topic, it isn't recognised unless I log out and back in again every time. Now I am trying to proceed with the next lesson but it will not recognise any work I've done. It wont progress me and I am now stuck at the same place - can't go any further forward in the course. grrrrr........

It seems your account has been (finally) switched under the new webversion announced 43 days ago, see here.

Refresh the page when it happens. Doing that "solves" this "issue" for most users.

Do you mean refresh the home page before you start practicing or when you've finished the lesson? As I am experiencing the same issue on the website, not in the app.

I mean anytime the lesson you completed isn't counted as completed, so mainly just after finishing a lesson.

RE the above problem I had yesterday. today I logged in using Google Chrome instead of Internet Explorer and the problem seems to now have disappeared. Hope it stays that way. :)
