Mwhahah! I defeated you, oh German tree! :D
Yey! I really can't stop smiling. :D It took two months and many rage quits, but I finally did it! :D I can't count the amount of times I've shouted, "THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE!" at the screen, but it was all worth it for the bragging rig....cough I mean, the new knowledge I've gained. ;)
I will of course keep studying and improving my German in the future. After all of this work, I'm not planning on letting myself forget it so easily! :D
Thanks for the interesting course, Duolingo. :D
PS. I did an intensive German course in the past, so it would have probably taken me a lot longer otherwise. :$
Will you be doing the reverse course or any laddering? :D (Also, CONGRATS!! And reading your post was very entertaining hehe)
Thank you! :D And I'm glad that my post amused you. ;) I've actually already started the reverse course (I know 200 words in English ( * o * ) ) and have also started doing the timed practices in the German course. :D
I don't know why some commentators are even referring to becoming fluent... No self study language course is going to make anyone fluent.
You have come a long way towards being able to use a new language, and it is worth celebrating!!! Fluency comes later, with practice, and a language can be very useful and a lot of fun way before fluency arrives on the scene.
Thank you. :D I agree that fluency is something that will take much more time and effort to accomplish, and right now I'm just happy that I can read and understand various articles without using a dictionary every three seconds. :D
http://www.itchyfeetcomic.com/2013/09/view-from-top.html says it all. The view from Conversation Ridge is pretty good actually :-).
........ :'( I looked behind me.
I agree, the view from Conversation Ridge looks great, but I bet the view from MT. Fluency looks even better. ;)
Congratulations. I too had a similar Smile a couple of weeks ago when I got my Trophy. Now I commit to 5 lessons a day to improve, keep the Owl happy and the tree golden. Strengthen Skills will be your routine from now on.
Thank you. :D It feels wonderful when that little trophy appears, doesn't it. :D
I'm actually trying to see if I can complete the English tree from the German perspective now. :) Even the beginner levels feel much harder this way. :)
Blush Thank you. I don't intend to give up, and you mustn't either! :D
XD Like I said, I cheated a little/lot and skipped more than half of the course. ;) :$ My husband even managed to do it in two days, but he's fluent in both languages, so it doesn't count! XD
well, if it takes your husband 2 days to do it, then something must be wrong with this, a fluent person should be able to test out of it in half an hour. XD nice
XD Have you seen the later levels? They kept rejecting his answers, and he had to keep clicking, "my answer should be accepted".
Uses google translate XD
Ooooooh! Thank you! :D Good luck with your awesome looking French, too! ( o )
Good job! Remember, you still have a long ways to go. I doubt you are fluent in 2 months. How did you do it?! Two months?! Keep practicing, and DON'T GIVE UP!!!
Well, I did an intensive German course, so I had an advantage and was able to skip more than half of the course. ;) I'm actually thinking of trying another language next, but that will take me much, much longer since I don't have any experience in anything other than English, German and Japanese.
And of course I won't give up! And you mustn't either! :D
Congratulations! I've never studied German before, but I'm trying to get through the German tree within a month :$ I have until April 17th to finish, a personal goal. Keep up the good work, don't forget to try and find people to do language exchanges with!
......( o ) Wow....just wow. You will have to do some serious studying to do that, but I believe you can do it! :D Send me a message when you complete it so that I can reward some with some Lingots. :D
PS. I live in Germany, so finding a language exchange partner is relatively easy. ;)
PPS. Have you tried one of the 5000 German word courses on Memrise? It's great for building up your vocabulary fast. :)
You're awesome, thank you!!! P.S. if in your travels you happen to have a German friend looking to Skype exchange for English or Spanish, go ahead and shoot me a message ;) I'd be glad to. And again, congrats on finishing! I'll be sure to let you know when I get there too, hopefully no later than April 17th!
That is an impressive goal! I am a little worried that you will race the tree and then not remember what you learned. Finishing the tree doesn't mean that you will learn what is on it. Check in with yourself and keep an eye on what you submit to long term storage as opposed to short term storage. Also, I encourage you to take the Reverse tree when you finish the one you're working on xD
Yep way ahead of you. I'm currently in contact with one or two people form Germany who want to do Skype exchanges; it's like my sandbox for the stuff I learn here. It's an ambitious goal but only because it's meant to give me a rough introduction that I'll use as a foundation for more in-depth study later on. I've also gotten my best friend to hold me accountable to it :)
And for sure I intend to ladder, maybe even as a second self-imposed challenge. Thanks for the advise, good luck!
Oh good! I'm glad you've got it planned out. Looks like you've already put a lot of thought into this. Viel Erfolg beim Lernen! :D
( o ) Yes, I vanquished that evil tree! :D It shall never again trouble...em...me. XD Its evil minions keep stealing my precious gold (skills), though, so I must be vigilant and keep them from bringing back the beast. ;)
Wow, I went all RPG there. XD
No where near. I still have long way to go before that. I'm just happy I got through the tree. I will of course keep studying and improving my German in the future. :D
Congratulations, hope you'll have a lot of fun with your new knowledge =)
Thanks you! :D I can't wait to visit my mother-in-law and test out my new skills. };-)
Gratz on your final DING (Online RPG lingo) :D very, very impressing!
All this gaining of XP, and the earning and use of currency (Lingots), so reminds me of WoW, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, and the like. Makes it all so much fun and very addictive, for me :)
Which reminds me, I must give WoW a go again, especially as they now have the Italian language pack and 2 servers/realms. Geez, what a geek!
Big GRATZ, again :D
Thank yooooou! :D
I agree about it being addictive, but sometimes I feel like I'm just farming points in order to keep my streak going. XD
Are you excited for the new WoW expansive? It's supposed to be realised before Christmas this year, but you can already buy (cough) RIP OFF (cough) characters with the new level cap.
At the moment though, I'm having more fun building my MASSIVE castle in Minecraft. :D
Farming, yep, just like an RPG :-) I noticed you only need to do one lesson to keep that streak up, so make it an easy thus quick one.
I'm not sure I'd be bothered with the streak, except as another means of motivation, driving me towards tree completion. My objective here is to be able to read novels in different languages. I LOVE to read.
That expansion does look good. I just ran the vid from my battlenet account and forgot I had switched the language to Italian! The Italian language on the Orc definitely sounds impressive :) But I am certain I heard him say "Quest for Underpants", at one stage!!!! Either that reflects my current understanding of the language, or Blizzard have gone Monty Python on us :D
Building things is fun. I used to really enjoy doing that in 2nd Life (Uni module). Now I create 3D game objects with Maya (hobby).
Have fun with your castle :D
Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm still trying... Congratulations!!!
Two months is way too little time! I will not celebrate until I reach level 25. I still make mistakes and i'm nowhere near half of the tree. I do not move on to the next lesson until I finish three practices with 3 hearts!!! Call me perfectionist, but i'm having lotsa fun!
