In less than a months time I have a Japanese Exchange coming to stay with me for 1 week and I was wondering if anyone had any advice?
Do I talk to them in English or Japanese, because I don't know how much English they speak and I don't want to overwhelm them, but at the same time I don't speak a word of Japanese so I'll probably end up using google translate...
Here you go:
Just download the Genki books and you should be set, have fun learning! Best books for beginners, period. If it's just speaking, then month is more than enough to learn the basics, learn them well.
I think he/she will speak Japanese, but as with every Japanese person i guess he/she will want to learn some english so that's a plus. You can learn Japanese and the other person can learn English.
If they're coming to you, they would probably want to learn English. But that doesn't mean you can't learn some Japanese from them. You can help them learn English and they can help you learn Japanese. Also, there's a Japanese course on Duolingo, so you should get started!
