Have to agree with OP. HATE the new health system - such a de-motivator and undermines the simplicity and ease of picking up duoloingo each day in a way that works for me.

I've heard good things about Babbel, you can use a combination of programs like Babbel, Lingvist and Memrise.

I haven't used health yet but the system doesn't seem to have many fans.

That's pretty much what I'm doing. I use a combination of Duolingo, Memrise and Babel. Memrise is good for learning a lot of single words and gradually stringing them together into sentences. No explanation of the rules behind anything though. On it's own it would probably be a bit confusing at times.

Babel explains how things work as you go along, giving you a bit of a deeper understanding of what's going on, like a class. It's got a lot of example conversations in it. You do have to pay for the subscription though but if you don't mind doing that I'd recommend it.

Thanks I've heard good things about Babel too. Just disappointing I was enjoying Duolingo haven't had time to get back to the lesson I was prevented from completing this morning! Seems counterproductive!

I am glad I finished the German tree before this new health system that, as far as I can tell, both punishes you for making errors and forces you to learn a specific way as per some sort of statistics. Yeah, I might have to start looking at alternatives.

Which is a shame, because I love duo as it is now and I keep recommending it to friends and strangers.

You can do the website from your iPhone, no health there yet. I don't like it much from my Android because it doesn't fit the screen but if you have an iPad I think it would work well

Don't forget to go to the Apple store and rate Duo as a one with comment on health specifically

I've been using a combination of Memrise and Duolingo for a while and I must say that Memrise is quite good. Duolingo doesn't have health on the PC version, so if you can, you should still stay on here while using a different app for mobile.

Health heart? I guess I haven't had the transplant yet? What is this health heart?

It appeared top right corner of mine where the practice button used to be. It's like having lives you lose one every time you make a mistake . Once your lives have gone you can't do anything for several hours!

It's true it's not on the web site. I had no idea there was so much more information on the web site. There's no mention of it on the app.
