Languages that descended from Latin, the language of ancient Rome. Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian are the major ones.

The romance languages are languages which derived from Latin after the fall of the Roman Empire - Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian. If you were hoping the 'romance' in the name indicated some kind of flirting, sorry to disappoint - it's a corruption of a Latin phrase meaning 'to speak in Roman' (i.e. Latin).

Cool I was hoping it didn't mean flirting

Romance languages are a language family (in the Indo-European languages) and were named because they originated from a language spoken by the Romans. The main languages are Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Catalan.
