Hindi for English speakers...
someone made a post about this about a fortnight ago... something's up with the Hindi course- it doesn't seem to have made any progress for months and all the contributors seem to have gone AWOL. I've tried getting in touch with the contributors by messaging the one that was previously the most active but I've heard absolutely nothing. Is there anything at all we can do to get duo to step in?
I am really annoyed at the Hindi course's lack of progress. There is only one contributor who does absolutely nothing and doesn't even let others contribute to the course. Duolingo should replace this contributor with one of the thousands of willing and able applicants. To answer your question, there is nothing we can do right now.
The CEO of Duolingo has said he's going to take action regarding the lack of progress on the Hindi course. I am elated to hear this!
Ironically, a minimum of two moderating contributors are required; there is currently only one contributor, and he is the only moderator too! https://www.duolingo.com/comment/1627314$comment_id=1658898
The course development has already resumed, even if you're not seeing many updates on the incubator right away. There was not much there in the tree when I joined, and I don't know how the previous contributors might have planned things. So I have to figure out things and plan ahead, which I am continuously doing. We are also trying to see if some of the new features which the Japanese course has can become available for this course as well.
Nope, I don't know anything at all. Form UI it is not much different. I can mod the comments on Hindi discussion forum. I have asked jitengore many times what is happening in incubator, but there was no answer. I had known one contributor personally but he also didn't provided any information. Later I asked how he was removed from incubator he replied that due to not logging for 1 month, system automatically removed his contributor access. I guess this happened to every other one.
Yeah, that makes sense. If the contributor isn't going to do anything then he/she should be removed. I'm disappointed to see the lack of progress. I know the contributor was just replaced recently, but I expected there to be a lot more action right away. Right now it seems like nothing's happened.
I'm happy to see how eagerly everyone is waiting for the course. I assure you that we are going to make regular progress in the course now, and will ensure that it doesn't get halted again. I'm as excited for making this course available as you guys are. Thanks for your patience. :)
Can my application be looked. I had previously applied to contribute in the course. I was accepted as moderator for Hindi Forum two years ago ( I still have Moderator's role and privileges) just before the Hindi Course entered in Incubator. Then the Hindi team which included Jitengore, Poonam, Varun etc hinted that I will be included in course contributor list once some substantial progress done. That time I was very active on forum and had big streak. During the last 2 years the things have changed and I got busy, (I become a working person from student), but I can spent some time regularly for contributing Hindi Courses. In the Hindi forum there isn't lot to moderate, mostly missing translations in which I don't have access (So, my presence is not felt). I have been active on Jitengore's Activity feed. But since as activity feed is not available now, I can't directly message anyone.
So, I am writing this to you in this Comment which should be written on personal feed. (I was waiting for you to comment somewhere to communicate with you since your profile appeared incubator.) Do I need write a new application for contributor so that you can see anew?
Thanks and Regards.
Hi Kanan, is there any way new learners could be involved in the alpha testing? I would like to volunteer.
I have been waiting for the Hindi course for about one and a half years now, I gave up hope when the progress was stagnating and was really glad to see you take it on. I have been looking forward to April, and was crushed when the expected date was moved to June. That is why I would like to be an alpha tester.
hmm he posted it about 2 weeks ago, so there's probably some behind the scenes stuff happening... maybe they're trying to contact the contributors, or assess where the course is at, or maybe look at people who have applied but been denied? I'd give it another month or so... if nothing's happened by then then maybe we'll have to make more posts about it or something....
