The intonation does not suggest a question at all.

I have not found any questions that sound like questions so far.

It's just a matter of getting used

Please report these kind of audio problems in the report field as well. :)

I think the developers check that more often than the discussions. ;)

Couch=divan=sofa. Reported: divan

Agreed! I just got marked down for using divan, too.

Why isn't it a statement? "The couch is new." I did not hear a question here at all.

I heard the intonation and put ' The couch is new?' , which was marked as wrong. Does it not know that we can use intonation too?

Why doesn't my translation "The couch is new?" work?

Why is "Is it a new couch" not working?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Jamadu2

Ok i know now.. There's no "un"

Why not settee?

If it's not acceptable "Sofa" should not be an option in the notes. At least try.

i wrote "Is the divan new?" and was marked wrong

Why is "Is the couch new" wrong? And what is this: an Italian or an English language course??? I think it should all be about demonstrating understanding the right gist of the Italian phrase, not to demonstrate a flawless command of the English language. Which, as a non native English speaker, is very difficult to do....
