Not a huge fan of Duolingo's new interface....
If you've noticed like I have - Duolingo have updated their interface which includes newer, smoother transitions into lessons and practice. As Luis mentioned, this must've been related with their plans for monetization, already which I've seen adjusted into their iOS app with smooth, non-flashy adverts after each lesson, well done Duolingo team!
However, I've seen so many problems coming with the web update.
For some time now, the activity stream has disappeared in all the accounts I see. This itself is unappealing as I can't see what my friends have done or the FAQs posted on large upcoming course developers' accounts. No one can longer publicly contact me now or see my progress / vice versa.
But they've taken this one step further now and removed the followers/friends tab!! How am I supposed to know how many friends my friends and I have now? So sorry to say, but it feels as if they're trying to remove as much as the social part of learning altogether from this site.
Also can you, the Duolingo Team, please fix the bug - when I click 'Discuss sentence' during practice - it opens up a blank tab. I don't know how am I supposed to know the reason why the sentence is translated in that particular way.
Please fix this Duolingo Team! I'm still very grateful for your hard work!
The "Activity" feature was discontinued a while back. It is taking staff a while to migrate all of us to the new code. There are plans to build new communication tools, but they are not yet ready.

You can still see the people you're following if you look at the leader board on your home page.
And why is there no link from the new Android mobile website to the full site? How is a new user supposed to even know discussion exists if there is no link from the mobile website or the App
I use IOS and there is no access to the discussions from IOS at all. Never has been. Not sure what's going on with Android.
Android you could not from the app but you could from the mobile website. The new Android mobile website doesn't have a link to discussion or see full website
No, the following/followers section has gone now (at least for me). All there is on my profile page is my picture and name, and my "achievements" (streak length and languages) down the side. I wish there had been a warning that the friends list was going to disappear, as until Tuesday, you could still write to people and it would appear in their emails.
This is a result of Duolingo's website rewrite. Some folks, like me, have had the new code for several weeks now. I haven't had a list of followers/following, or been able to write on peoples' profiles, for a long time. Other folks are just now getting the new code.
Activity is gone for good AFAIK
And the sentence discussion still works, it just opens up in a new tab. Takes a bit of time to load, but still works like before. At least for me, using the desktop website.
For me it never opens a new tab. It opens a new tab with the discussion as usual. Maybe you could check your settings how your browser deals with new tabs. I used Chrome and Firefox. Same.
Edit: Sorry, a new tab. Not a blank tab. I don't have problems with it. I like the new way.
