Languages from different language base can't be removed
It's good that Duolingo has inserted the course switcher, so that one can change the language which is on a different language base.
A long time ago, I pressed the English from Indonesian course. As I don't want it to be seen on the course switcher, I tried removing that course, but it doesn't work, since that is How Duolingo works. Only the reset button is working.
How can this be solved?
I'm dealing with the same problem as you, but until now, I don't know how to solve it
Having problems with that too... it makes my interface cluttered. Can they please do something about this :/
You can't delete the only course in a base language, you can delete courses only if there are two more, but you can't delete them all anyway, one of them always remains.
Sorry if the explanation is not clear, I can hardly explain this thing even in my native language.
No, this did not work for me. I have a french course on my profile for some reason (from Italian) and I wanted it gone. So I went to Italian, added another course (English) and deleted the French course. Now, the French is not on the drop down list but it IS on my profile page, STILL, as a language I'm learning! Why?? I go to delete it in settings but see that it's already deleted, with only English from Italian being there. So why does the French still show up and the English from Italian doesn't show up???
I'm also dealing with this same problem. The thing is, if you do start a course from another language and it's the only course you have from that same language, you can't delete it. I'm not exactly sure why, but that's just the way it is. If you start another course from that same language and have more than one course from that same language, you can delete them, but one will always remain.
I'm having same problem. I tried English course as Dutch speaker,( just out of curiosity), and now i can't remove it, from all comments i read here, sounds like one course is always remain.
I have the same problem, I accidentally choose Arabic as my base-language, and DuoLingo always shows an English(Arabic) in the mobile phone profile.
Having the same problem as some of the other comments (English with Arabic as base language). I honestly have no idea how it happened! It does show on my profile and (more often than not) I end up on the Arabic Duo. It is very annoying to switch back and it always takes me forever to figure out how to do it. Duo needs to come up with an easier way to switch base languages and to delete unwanted language courses (cause some of us don't mean to do some of them or take a look just by curiosity).
Can't remove a based languages yet. Why is this still not fixed if it's been over a year?
aaah I have the same problem, i don't even know why the course appears, I never chose to start it...
Actually I don't always see it on the course switcher, but it does appear on my profile
A long time ago I tried the English from Arabic course but didn't like it so I immediately removed the course. This was successful, the course was completely gone.
Now I suddenly see the course in the switcher and also English in my profile under "Languages".
This looks to me like a bug because I definitely didn't have English under my languages until today. And it doesn't make sense to let me delete the course (months ago) and now suddenly it has to be back because there has to be at least one course in a base language.
Thank you, I think I ran into the same problem. I'm learning Spanish from English and decided to just have a look at the reverse course to see if I want to pursue it right now. I don't think I want to pursue at this time but I guess I am stuck with it. I wish they would change this! And I wasted an hour just trying to get back to my English language home base!
I'm having this problem as well, my profile says I'm learning English because I looked at the course contributors for the English from Japanese course. I obviously don't want my profile to say I'm learning English since it's my native language...
I have the same problem. I wanted to see how a language looked from the other way, and now can't remove it.
Yes, I know this topic is old but I have the same problem. I am wondering what would happen if I have a learn English course from one language, but then started an English course from a different course? Would the XP be combined? Would there be two "English"'s on my profile?
Yes the XP would add onto each other since it's for the same user. I have courses which start from different languages and the XP adds up. It would show that you're learning English from a given language(s) and a given language(s) from English.
