Strengthen Skills forces timed responses

On my Android phone only, the Strengthen Skills feature has a new icon, that of a clock face. Now it requires that I respond within 60 seconds to get 'credit' for the answer. I did not select this nor can I find how to revert it to the previous state. My ability to type on a smartphone is extremely limited for a number of physical reasons and this is not a 'feature' that is beneficial to me nor, I expect, to many like me.

How do I get the phone app to return to the normal mode of operation?

It was like this on my android for a few days and now it's back to usual! I like it better if it is not timed! The app does not have a review option, so non-timed practice is the only way to go through errors again. And again if necessary. They are testing something again.

Thanks, Steffi. As a 'gentleman of years,' typing on the smartphone is quite challenging enough without being timed! As of now, I still have the 'forced' timed practice. I'll try to remain patient and hope mine reverts as yours did. But it's been several days already. Wish me luck!

I do and I fully agree that writing on smartphones is challenging, especially in foreign languages and with different keyboard layouts. I keep my fingers crossed that they'll abandon the timed practice in the app or at least leave us the choice. But the later is in a way already avaible, just do not use general strengthening but select a skill and then strengthening :-)

Hi Ken, this is a good question. Please edit your original post and remove your email address. Duolingo doesn't allow us to share personal info (https://www.duolingo.com/guidelines) and I don't want to have to delete such a good post! Thank you :)
