Past Potential Form

So I learned verb conjuagtion rules for how to say "can" in Japanese, for example in "I can eat" the verb 食べる becomes “食べられる”. But I couldn't find how to express the past form of it "could", for example "I could eat". What are the conjuagtion rules for could? Thanks in advance!

The potential form just changes the verb into a new verb. I believe the result is always a ru verb, so just follow the normal rules for conjugation. So 食べる should become 食べられた.
