Learning more vocabulary, have you tried Flip Word yet?
In addition to using Duolingo, I came across this app for Google Chrome users, called Flip Word.
Been using it to increase my vocabulary, and was wondering if any one else uses it.
I've just checked it out for Japanese vocabulary. It is an excellent way to learn vocabulary. It is such fun to read in English and to see random words in a language I am learning. I understand the English, so it is easy to understand the new word because it is introduced in context. The words that are introduced seem to be quite useful, and there are not too many. I think there are just enough to keep it interesting. It definitely suits my learning style.
I would like to point out the downside of learning vocabulary this way. Although I can learn the meaning of the word, I will not be able to learn how to use it. Japanese sentence structure is quite different from English, and I can see that some of the direct translations are grammatically unsuitable.
Thank you for mentioning it. I would probably not have found it otherwise. If it only it were available for my main languages. Then I would be really happy!
@ jimnicholson, it uses the word in the context of the text at hand. When you click on the word, it also gives you an example sentence in your target language to see it's usage with audio. The bottom right corner of the dialog box brings up some interesting videos related to your language as well.
Through settings, you can adjust the frequency of the words you see in your target language as well, or ajdust the degree of difficulty from beginner to advanced.
Hope this helps.
