Can you turn off timed practice on the Android app?

On the Android version of the app, the Strengthen Skills Barbell button has turned into the Timed Practice Stopwatch. I don't like timed practice, I simply can't type that fast on my phone. And I don't feel like the time is actually long enough for me to actually strengthen my skills. Does anyone know how to turn off timed practice on the app, or change it back to the regular, non timed practice? Thank you

Does anyone know how to turn off timed practice on the app

Unfortunately it is not possible.

Probably it is a so-called A/B test on Android.
I tested four accounts on the same Android phone. Two of them have the "one-minute" against-the-clock-speed-test", but the other two don't have it.

Workaround in the Android App
for cancelling the "one-minute" against-the-clock-speed-test" in the Android app.

  • don't click on the "blue-button" practice
  • click on an individual skill
  • click on "Weakest words"

And go to the "Google play store" to give a feedback.

Workaround for the "general strengthening" on a phone
When my tree is gold I like to use the "general strengthening" in normal speed to prevent my tree from "ungilding". In the App it is impossible now.
But in the web version (http://www.duolingo.com) in the browser of your phone, you can stil use the general "Strengthen skills" button.

Those are good work around ideas. Unfortunately my Japanese tree is gold and they don't have a web version of that yet. :/ I uninstalled the app then reinstalled an older APK which has set it back to the non-timed practice. Hopefully more people leave feedback about this, and Duolingo listens

New version (3.51.x) just came out, the blue button was a barbell, but still only gave me timed exercises. Have reverted back to 3.49.4 again.

I reinstalled 3.51.2 and now Timed Practice is gone entirely.

This is driving me crazy. I've completely ditched the app and use the browser now :(

I also hate it. The typing and autocorrect on my phone is terrible and I don't even get time to think or understand the corrections. It may work for some people but I can't use the app if that is the only choice.

I did not like the timer at first, but now I sort of like it. But I am using a Tablet and it is easier to type on that. I use the browser site If i dont want to use the timer. But I definitely think there should be a choice to use the timer or not use it on the android app.

I ended up downgrading the app to one that does not have the timer. I like the slower Pace, I feel like I learn more

I do like it on the web version, but it doesn't work as well on the phone when I'm on the go. Plus, Japanese is not available on the web version, only in the app for some reason

Thanks for your working info about V3.51.2 Elizabeth: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/23259083$comment_id=23384786

Be aware that latest V3.52.2 app version makes things even worse:

Well, since my daily goal is 50 and I usually exceed it, the 1xp bug isn't an issue. The repeat of the just missed question must be an A/B test as I haven't seen that problem either, and I'd read that earlier so was looking for it.
