The easiest language for a french native.

Hey !

I was wondering what would be the easiest language that a french native could learn ?

Italian, Spanish maybe ?

Thank you in advance :D

Do you mean among those available on Duolingo or among all existing languages?

I'd say Spanish among the courses available to French speakers.
I'd say Catalan (because it's closer than Spanish) among the courses available on Duo (not necessarily to French speakers).
Otherwise... maybe Catalan too but there are probably some "patois" that are even easier for a French speaker and maybe a constructed language like Toki Pona would be even easier. So, hard to tell.

Thanks for that ! Actually I'm not interested by Catalan.

And what do you think about Esperanto ?

Possibly Spanish first, and Italian second, yes.

Very simple grammar and about half of the vocabulary from Latin origin thus very similar to French…

I thing Spanish, I was not really interested, and then started 2 months ago because I booked a trip to Barcelona this summer, and really you can improve your skills so fast compared to German or other languages. English is quite easy also. But Spanish and French (and Italian) have common roots that really help to learn the vocabulary + grammar

hey french brother ! so :) i would say any of romance languages : italian portuguese spanish or romanian for the main ones :) then comes germanic languages, since french has a lot in common with them ! look at : Dutch, Swedish / Danish / Norwegian :) german is hard for a french speaker :) i've been learning swedish and it is really easy and i have no problems with pronounciation, plus, if you are comfortable with english, this is a piece of cake ;) good luck !

Hey Remi.cun! In my opinion it would be spanish for sure, it is really similar to french and quite easy.

I'm mexican, so it would be a pleasure to help you learn spanish, and if you could help me improve my french it would be really nice!
