There's a man with a knife behind the curtain, there's a bear on a bicycle who is also my uncle, a wolf is eating me, and now de kommer in gjennom toalettet?! Why oh why didn't I learn Esperanto instead?

There's a Stephen King short story about a hand coming out of the toilet, too.

Do you know how is it called?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/TolStarStrider

Haha Zelda reference?

It's the saddest feeling when one doesn't get the references...

At least good to know it is one ^^

Good point, Andrew. But I,too, do not understand the "hand out of the toilet" comment or referenced source. Please share the origin. Thanks. 19Dec17

It's a reference to a scene that features in a couple of games in the Zelda franchise. The hand belongs to a ghost, who asks Link (the character one plays in the game) for paper.

Apparently, the inspiration came from Japanse ghost stories. I won't elaborate, in case anyone wants to sleep tonight, but here is the source.

Well done Duolingo for making a reference to one of the greatest games of all time.

I wrote "there comes a hand out of the toilet" - what have I done wrong here?

That's very poetic!

I, a native speaker of English, would not say you are wrong but your sentence is awkward and old-fashioned.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/FoxxieWyldfyre

This would be most unsettling during a potty run in the night haha

I was so confused. I could translate it, but wasn't sure if I had miss understood.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/effyleven

Nei! No! Misunderstanding isn't here. This is Norwegian. Misunderstanding is next door.. in Duolingo French! (Don't go to the end. That's Danish. They talk funny.)

This is my nightmare!

Am i the only one here who saw this sentence and thought "Metallica"?

Metal up your a**!

And doing what....?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Deliciae

Asking for some paper.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/jmb1948

I have never read or heard this sentence in my life.. It is extremely awkward. Also, a horrible mareritt

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/effyleven

Duolingo does this sometimes; provides sentences that are so bizarre they stick firmly in conciousness. Yes, they are having fun with us... but if we understand what the sentence really says, the purpose of language has been achieved... and memorably.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/jar23pma30

I just found the sentence plain funny!!

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Umukhanov

it reminded me stephen king's "the moving finger"

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Chronomatex

"Opp" refers also to "on" something, right?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/McColl34

"Up," as in a hand coming up out of the toilet.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Ebba145437

Could you also say "ut av" instead of "opp av"?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/Deliciae

"Opp av" is the most natural combination for describing that the hand is coming up from the toilet bowl itself, but if it were sticking out on the side of the toilet you could use "ut av".

We also use "toalettet" to refer to the room itself, so if someone's coming "ut av toalettet" they're usually just exiting the bathroom.
